Trevor Cooper and Eric Meier, solo guitars
Two of Edmonton's best!
In its first concert of the season the Edmonton Classical Guitar Society presents two fine young guitarists who had their early training in Edmonton and then went on to study at prestigious schools in the United States and Europe. Eric and Trevor will each be playing solo for ½ of the concert.
Eric Meier studied in Edmonton with Michel Forestier and then at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where he was Undergraduate Presser Scholar and recipient of both the Azalia H. Thomas Prize and the Peabody Alumni Award. His principle instructor was Ray Chester, and he took regular masterclasses with maestro Manuel Barrueco. Eric is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree under Carlo Marchione in Maastricht, The Netherlands. In 2016 he performed at the Guitar Foundation of America Convention in Denver, Colorado as member of The Young and the Restless, winners of the ensemble showcase competition.
Trevor Cooper began his guitar studies in Edmonton with Dayle Besler and Michel Forestier and then attended the University of Toronto where he studied under Jeffrey McFadden. After graduating, he travelled to Seville, Spain, where he took lessons with Spanish guitarist Francisco Bernier, and in 2015 was one of only fourteen guitarists from around the world to be accepted into the Master in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Alicante. His teachers there included David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Paul O'Dette and Paul Galbraith. Trevor subsequently completed a Masters degree at the Universitaet Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, under the renowned American guitarist Eliot Fisk.
